An Ottawa teacher story
Continuing presenting candidates for School board trustee elections next week
I met Chanel father, playing soccer this summer. I told him my story, and he told me his story, or more exactly, the story of his daughter, who was suspended for expressing opposition to teaching school children ideological and political viewpoints, such as “critical race theory”, which teachers are (apparently) provided now with (by whom, I wonder?) and which they now need to implement (or be removed from teaching, I guess…)
That did sound to me like a story from my old childhood years back in USSR (before Perestroika) - There teachers we also given important ideological and political viewpoints which they need to follow (or you know what would happened to them…)
So here it comes. Have a listen. Whether you live in Canada or elsewhere, the issues discussed here are likely the same in many other ‘developed’ countries, don’t you think?
Myself, I did not pay much attention to all those new acronyms, theories, polices - Indeed, what they could have to do with people dying in Ukraine, right? - until recently. Now I do, and am learning a lot from stories like this one.
The Chanel Pfahl Story is featured in the ‘Blueprint for Canada’ (https://blueprintforcanada.ca/), which is a shared platform for public education policy in Canada developed by parents, educators, and concerned citizens.
Now Chanel Pfahl is candidate for School board trustee in Orleans neighborhood of Ottawa, and I wish her courage and luck!
Good luck too Chanel! These elections are important at all levels. The prospect of Catherine McKenney being elected mayor particularly scares me!
