Premier Danielle Smith starts the day with a bang heard across the country.

Then she brings in the province’s sovereignty act, for the first but almost certainly not the last time.

2035 is a no-go for net-zero power in Alberta. 2050 is Smith’s target in a province where the biggest source of power by far is natural gas.

“We refuse to go along with the plan,” she says, throwing down what we always thought was the inevitable gauntlet.

For Smith, what Trudeau and his pals are up to with their electricity brainwave is an “absurd, illogical, unscientific and unconstitutional interference in Alberta’s electrical grid by a federal government that simply doesn’t care what happens to our province so long as they have a good virtue-signalling story to tell their leftist friends and special interests.”
