Follow up on Twitter labeling BBC as "Government-funded"
Pierre Poilievre to Elon Musk, Elon Musk to BBC - What it means for Canada
First, update on previous stories:
I have met with TD bank manager and he did clarify the remaining two “red flags” (concerns) for me - I’ll record a new YouTube episode on this shortly.
What we’ve learnt about our readiness for “Blackouts” (Tragic consequences of the latest ice storm in Quebec) have been added to my coverage of it.
Now the main story:
Two things happened the next day after I posted the article about Twitter's move to label UK’s BBC and US’s NPR, but not Canada’s CBC (yet) as "government funded media":
Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre also have sent request to Twitter asking to label CBC as being government-funded media.
And at the same time:
Elon Musk has given interview to a BBC reporter (which is now posted on BBC website and it is still there - as a live proof that they do allow discussion of alternative opinions even on “misinformation” and “covid measures” ! ), after which he relabeled BBC back from “Government-funded Media” to “Publicly funded media”.
What do these two events mean for the better transparency and better journalism, decide for yourself. We can now only wish that CBC could also invite Elan Musk to talk about the same topics…
“Once you give away freedom of speech, you won’t get it back”.
(Elon Mask in his interview to BBC)
As Elon Musk said in his interview to BBC “Once you give away freedom of speech, you won’t get it back”. That’s why so many Canadians have become so worried now as Bill C-11 - despite strong opposition to it and through the means of not allowing second hearing on it - has been now passed in Canada. Let’s see what this would mean to Canada and to the world…
In meanwhile, we can review some other points that Elan Musk brought up in his interview at BBC.
Watch his full interview (57 mins )here: https://www.bbc.com/news/av/world-us-canada-65249139, also on YouTube below:
Some quotes from the interview:
Musk:
“Does the BBC hold itself at all responsible for misinformation regarding masking and side-effects of vaccinations and not reporting on that at all?
“And what about the fact that the BBC was put under pressure by the British government to change the editorial policy, are you aware of that?
“Has the BBC changed its COVID misinformation?”
“Look, COVID is no longer an issue,” Musk responded. “Does the BBC hold itself at all responsible for misinformation regarding masking and side-effects of vaccinations, and not reporting on that at all,”
The BBC declined to comment on Mr Musk's claims.
Prior to this interview Mr Musk has also spoken about having “major side effects” after 2nd covid vaccination - Left him feeling as if he was “dying for several days.”
And he also just twitted this:
