Twitter's move to label BBC and NPR as "government-funded media" receives a lot of attention. Is CBC next?
Also, an exciting event to watch live has started in Canada - National Citizen's Inquiry, whatever side of the narrative are you on. Both (Twitter and NCI news) prove that democracy works!
If you are reading this newsletter, you are likely interested in reading not only legacy main stream media, but also alternative sources of news, and you are also in one of those countries where such alternative sources of news are still allowed (not in Russia, for sure). So, let’s appreciate that and thank the democratic foundations of our countries that make this possible.
I’m not supporting or endorsing any side of the story, but I find it important to be aware of different opinions, coming from different sources so that to be able to better understand where my country and the world are going and how to prepare for what’s coming.
Both of these news came almost incidentally - and both related to the transparency and biases of our legacy main stream media:
News #1: Twitter added 'Government-Funded Media' label on BBC (in UK) and NPR (in USA) accounts and responded to the requests to label in the same way CBC (Canada).
News #2: National Citizen’s Inquiry has been launched and a testimonial from a former prominent CBC journalist has been just given.
You can read more about the first event (news) from CBC and from Twitter (click in image below). Also, this article provides additional information on that: https://www.irishtimes.com/media/2023/04/10/musk-admits-bbc-among-least-biased-in-row-over-twitter-tag/
As for the second event (news), you won’t find anything about it on CBC or anywhere in legacy media, as if it does not happen at all - even though it spans for over two months and is held from coast to coast, in all major Canadian cities…
And here is how these two events are connected…
Here’s one of many Twitter posts discussing news outlets that have been already labelled as government funded vs. those that have not been yet:
The same post with Elan' Musk’s response to it:
As you start reading the comments to this and other related Twitter posts, you will get a reference to the testimony that a former CBC journalist Rodney Palmer gave under oath for the National Citizen’s Inquiry about how CBC was not conducting newsgathering, but rather focusing on propaganda - from the very early days of the pandemic. Worth a listen!
The full (1 hour) recording of his testimonial is available at the NCI Rumble website:

If you don’t have that much time to watch it, here is 10-min summary of it posted in Twitter (click on the image below):
And if you are not following NCI yet, you may find it interesting - regardless of what your opinions are about the events of the past two years.
You can watch it live, in person, or over internet. The schedule is below (pasted from nationalcitizensinquiry.ca/events/). You can register (for free) for a live event from link below (from from NCI Twitter):
